It is a story
about a slave mother who was forced to do the
unthinkable; kill her baby girl. Now, nearly
twenty years later, sealed wounds are reopened by the
appearance of Beloved, a lost girl. Throughout the book
and sometimes in different narratives, a town's reaction
towards the murder of a baby girl in the ending years of
slavery is explored. And the mother, Sethe, opens up her
heart to the future. I disliked the too graphic
portrayals of some acts, however it was necessary for
the psychological impact that slavery left on its
victims.
Bleach, Volume 5
by Tite Kubo
By: Macy Duong
[This book] is
about a gut that was just human until he met a Soul
Reaper then everything changed. He then turns into a
soul reaper, himself, and hunts Hollows. He meets a
Quincey that also has the same goal. I like that the
book was filled with action and the art is really good
and all teens should read this.
Bleach Vol. 22 by Tite
Kubo
By: Linda Lam
This is
basically about the beginning of the 2nd arc of Bleach.
These two arrancais appear and they're bad guys. They
have come to look around and Ichigo and friends come to
fight them and etc. I loved everything about it and all
Anime/Manga/Bleach/Action lovers and random that want to
to try something new [should read this].
Boys Over Flowers, Volume 26,
by Yoko Kamio
By: Angela Ho
A girl,
Tsukushi, chooses Tsukasa over Kiyonaga. Tsukasa’s
friends force them to be to together and lock them up in
a room. Kaede, Tsukasa’s mom, sent spies to stop them
from being together, Tsukasa and Tsukushi must escape
from the grasp of Kaede’s hands. I like the way the
author plots the story. What I disliked about it was the
way the author wrote too short of a story. She could
have extended it by adding more details in the books. I
think that mostly teens would enjoy reading this kind of
book because it talks about high school and friendship.

Chess by Claire Summerscale
By: Alvin Wong
This book was
about chess, chess pieces, and chess strategies. It
tells you the role of each piece, the most effective
opening and checkmates, and strategies that give you the
edge. I liked that the book taught me new strategies and
tactics like defending myself from Scholar’s Mute, using
the Fried Liver, hoe the Greek Gift works, and what
Seventh Heaven is and what it does. People interested in
learning how to play chess or people who like chess and
play it would enjoy reading this.

Death Note, Volume 5
by Tsugumi Ohba
By: Macy Duong
After a week
locked up no one but Ryuko from company, Light is ready
to give his Death Note and all the memories of it. Freed
from his past actions, Light is convinced he is
innocent, but L is ready to keep Light under lock and
key forever. I like that you would never know what
happens next and people have wits to outsmart everyone.
All teens [should read this book].
Don’t
Read This! And other tales of the Unnatural by
Margaret Mahy
By: Angela Ho
This book was
about scary stories and events tat happened all over the
world. In this book, it talks about people who passed
away, dolls, uninvited guests, haunted mirrors, and many
more. These ghost stories come from New Zealand,
Zimbabwe, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Japan,
Canada, and others. I disliked the way there was no
scary endings to the stories. But I like the ones that
talked about thrilling, scary, suspenseful events. This
books I is a good book because it contains many stories
in one book. I would recommend this book for
mostly pre-teens or children who love ghost stories good
endings.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
By: Roxanne
Ramirez
Victor
Frankenstein begins his journey for knowledge and power
at the start of an early age and continues his obsession
until the very end. The need for excellence, knowledge,
and power of knowledge ultimately leads to the creation
of his creature. Once the being comes to life, Dr.
Victor Frankenstein realizes his actions and regards his
experiment of assembling body parts from graves, what is
now his stitched up creature, as not a friend, but a
monster. He, in effect, shuns out his creation, and then
the chase begins all across Europe and the Antarctic.
The quest for true meaning and answers unravel.
I liked that the story involved not only the elements of
Romanticism, but also Gothic [elements]. After reading
each chapter, I reflected on internal appearance vs. the
reality of the characters and how they were portrayed by
other. Both Dr. Frankenstein and his creation dealt with
emotions beyond their comprehension. Neither could grasp
the comfort of life. They yearned for true
understanding. I loved everything about this novel from
the creative beginning to the shocking and the heart
breaking ending. Those who love the detailed
descriptions of nature and emotions and the contrast of:
life/death; sunshine/storms; reality/fantasy;
light/dark.

Farmer Skit and

I Am Legend by Richard
Mathesen
By: Roxanne
Ramirez
Robert Neville
wakes up every day with little purpose but to fight his
way thorough life being the last human on Earth. Those
who come out at night are not human. They are
vampire-like creatures holding a façade of a “normal
human.” Every night he struggles to keep peace outside
his door while they terrorize him on his lawn. As each
day progresses he becomes more aware of his demise and
begins to engulf his mind into finding out what made all
the humans change into what now lives on his door step.
Soon the research of medicine will play a role in his
everyday life and the days gets closer to finding the
cause and possible solution. But, time is running out
and legend has it that one day…
I was intrigued
by the though of a new breed of civilization (vampires)
being brought up and the near extinction of mankind.
Robert Neville’s flashbacks were a good touch to the
storytelling. I liked the attitude of perseverance and
the determination to live, even when things looked grim
for Robert. Someone who likes to open up their minds to
new ideas, thoughts, and seeing a world from a different
perspective; someone who likes SciFi; someone who likes
to read of struggle and perseverance.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
by James Rollins
By: Alvin Wong
This was about
Indiana Jones on an adventure to stop the Russians from
using the Crystal Skull to unlock knowledge far beyond
what humans know. Indiana has to return the skull to a
forgotten kingdom with his colleague who has gone
berserk, a friend, his former girlfriend, and his own
son. I disliked the fact that the Russians were always
causing so many problems for Indiana Jones. People who
love adventures or Indiana Jones would enjoy reading
this book. This is because it is a big adventure of
Indiana Jones.
Inside Girl by
J. Minter
By: Vivian Quan
[This book] is
about a fabulous girl who is starting high school. Her
siblings were known for having the coolest parties and
cutest designer clothes. The Flodds also knew plenty of
amazing famous people, but Flan had to comeback home and
[choose] to go to public or private school. She picked
to go to public school. She tried really hard to be
normal and not let her new friends know about her second
life. I liked how it showed me a view of non-New Yorkers
live. It displayed a clear picture. I didn’t like how
the book had short chapters. Also hoe Flan’s crush
wasn’t as cute as other characters in the book. It
didn’t fit in. I think my friend would [read this book].
She loves books and has a big heart in reading
nonfiction like this book. Also, and teen like it also.

about this story is that she gets to find her Flan

6,7, and 8/ If you haven’t read it yet, you should read

By: Ronnie Chan
This [book] was
about Jacob and Bella together. Jacob was trying to
protect Bella from the others. He was keeping his secret
as a werewolf from Bella. Bella soon found out about
Jacob being a werewolf when keeps getting suspicious.
Jacob soon told her. Bella kinda got in love with Jacob
and she started spending a lot of time with him. I like
how Bella found out that Jacob is a werewolf and how
they spend time together. I dislike that Bella kinda got
in love with Jacob because she is in love with Edward. I
bet you all the girls would enjoy reading this book
because it’s about romance and vampire or werewolves.
Whoever enjoys reading about werewolves or vampires
would enjoy this book also.

This book is
about Kane being envious of Adam who is with Heather and
Heather is envious of Beth who is with Adam. So Kane and

liked about his books is that Beth is trying to study

disliked is that Kane and Heather are always getting
into Beth and Adam’s stuff. Someone who likes
adventure and romance will like these books.

Twilight by Stephenie
Meyer
By: Macy Duong
The book was
about a girl named Bella that went to a new school
called Forks high school. At this school she meets a
strange group called the Cullen's. She later falls in
love with Edward Cullen, but the Cullen family has a
dark secret...there are all vampires. Bella risks her
life to be with Edward.
I liked reading
this book because I first saw the movie and loved it,
then read scenes. I liked that is was really detailed
and romantic. I dislike the main character's (Bella)
personality. I also dislike it because there are parts I
don't like.
By: Yanwen Yang
This book is
about a teenager who moves to Forks. There she meets a
vampire named Edward. Later, they fall in love with each
other and Bella is safe because they are vegetarians. I
like it because it is really exciting. I also dislike
because it can be too descriptive.

Wake by Lisa McMann
By: Diana Chau
This book is
about a normal girl named Janie who has this strange
power to go into other people’s dreams without them
knowing. Due to this strange power, Janie faces tough
problems along the way. She has no to tell this to until
this boy named Cabel came into her life. Cabel not only
came into her life, but he has a secret that Janie could
only solve. That’s not all, once you think it has ended
another thing happens. To find that out you better go
and check this book out. I like this book because of
the love, yet adventurous tales. Janie is a very strong
character unlike some of the other simple love/fantasy
books. Janie ahs an amazing boyfriend (he’s so
sweet and kind). In fact this story must be one of my
most favorite books. I believe people who enjoy a good
mystery or love in a novel. The problem she has in this
story and in the sequel are so page turning. I bet one
would like to sleep.
What I Meant… by Marie Lamba
By: Angela Ho
This book is
mostly about a girl, Sang, who is dealing with many
hardships in life: school, boys, friendship, family, and
others. Sand needs her parents to her, kick her crazy
aunt out of the house, persuade her parents to let her
date, avoid being grounded, and make up with her best
friend, Gina. Sand is a normal teenager girl who is
trying to calm every situation she faces. I like it
because it describes a half-Asian American girl like me
whose struggling with life. The girl tries to solve
every problem she encounters and tries to wiggle her way
out of trouble. I dislike hoe the author didn’t put a
conclusion to it and has to stop the story at a part
when everything was going great. In my personal opinion,
I think that mostly teenage or pre-teen girls would
enjoy reading this book.
White Like
Me (A white man’s view of what it means to be privileged
in America) by Time Wise
By: Roxanne
Ramirez
The author gives
his reflection on what it means to be white and
privileged. The book concentrates on his goal for
anti-racism and pre-judgment based on the color of one’s
skin. He understands that by the color of his own skin
he is put on a pedestal while other are left in the
dust. He understands that these actions and way of
thinking must be stopped. He sees it, hears it, and is
tired of it happening. Although he never experiences it,
he understands, from an early age into adulthood that is
hasn’t seemed to stop. And now he is reaching out to
help end it. I like his arguments he poses for
those against him and his reasoning why, where, and when
racism mostly occurs. I did not like that what he wrote
about is entirely true because that as it may, it would
that the world we live in is truly corrupt and not what
we really think it is. Someone who would like a change
all racism and prejudgment (would like this book) and
someone who does see would like it too. There are
certain events in a day that hold minorities back, and
give those who look “white,” privilege and want to stop
it and for everyone for equal opportunity.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist Volume 5: Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon

This [book] was
about Yugi and Jonouchi dueling to defeat the Meikyu
Borthers so they can get into Pegasus Castle. Yugi duels
Kaiba before he heads for the castle. One of them could
only get it. I disliked that Yugi let Kaiba win because
if Yugi won, Kaiba was going to commit suicide. Thus,
Yugi left Kaiba win so Kaiba can live to save his
borther from Pegasus. People who like Manga, or
Yu-Gi-Oh, would enjoy reading this.
