BuildLiteracy is the American library Association's partnership building website. The website features information, materials, and resources about how libraries, literacy programs, and coporate partners wotk together to build stronger literacy partnerships and more literate communites. BuildLitearcy.org is funded by Verizon.
National Center for Adult Literacy and Learning (NSCALL) "There are some great articles on adult literacy at the National Center for Adult Literacy and learning (NCSALL) website and you can ise these articles and topics for training. I used their material to do one of the four elements of teaching reading-vocabulary, fluency, decoding and comprehenion that tutors liked." National Institute for Literacy The National Institute for Literacy, a federal agency, provides leadership on literacy issues, including the improvement of reading instruction for children, youth, and adults. In consulation with the U.S. Departments of Education, Labor, and Health and Human Services, the Insitiute serves as a national resource on current, comprehensive literacy research, practice, and policy. On this site, you will find literacy facts and statistics, as well as information on government grant opportunities.
ProLiteracy The home of the largest adult literacy organization in the Unites States, ProLiteracy Worldwide. Find on-line courses, professional development opportunities; sign-up for public policy updates; and, under the ProLiteracy America page, find tutor resources including idead for teaching, spelling, writing, etc.
Health Literacy Going to the doctor can be a stressful experience for many people. It can be even more overwhelming when the doctor's diagnosis is confusing or poorly understood, especially for an adult struggling with low literacy skills. Great Start 5 GreatStart5® includes products and services that are an innovative approach to train and support tutors, students, staff, and trainers. It includes intake and support materials and resources for a literacy program, including a five hour tutor training video that introduces tutors to the basics they need to start tutoring. Students, tutors, staff and trainers have access to a web site with resources and materials they can use for a variety of activities.
News For You News for You Online.com is an online news source designed for people who are learning to read, write, or speak English. Seven new stories are posted weekly for 48 weeks a year. These engaging articles are based on world and national news events. They are written at reading levels 3-6 and ESL levels high-beginning and low-intermediate. Read and listen to this week's stories, try interactive exercises, and more!
Easy Voter Guide
The Easy Voter Guide Project is dedicated to the ideal that all people should have access to nonpartisan information about the why, how and what of voting and other forms of civic involvement. It publishes the Easy Voter Guide in five languages as a quick guide to state elections, including elected offices, propositions, political parties and voting issues, and it maintains this website to host all Easy Voter Guide Project information and education tools about elections and voting, as well as the Easy Voter Guide for downloading in seven languages.
Thinkfinity.org This website promotes achievement and lifelong learning with resources for instructors, parents, children, adult learners, and tutors, with a special section for adult learners with tools on building vocabulary. There is also a special section for tutors with ideas for lesson plans, strategies, and courses on literacy instruction.
