SUPERVISION POLICY

  • Children ages 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Library staff are not responsible for the safety of any child left unattended in the Library. Siblings under the age of 18 are not a substitute for adult supervision.

  • Children who misbehave will be required to leave the Library. If the child is not accompanied by an adult, the Alhambra Police Department Youth Services Division may be called for assistance.

  • You may request a copy of the Library's Unattended Child Policy at the Children's Reference Desk.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping the Library provide a safe, comfortable facility for children to use. By working together we can provide the best service possible for the children of our community.

INFORMATION FOR TEACHERS

The Alhambra Civic Center Library would like to assist you in preparing your class assignments throughout the school year. Please contact the Children's Department at (626) 570-3215 to learn more about our services for teachers.

  • Inform us as soon as possible of upcoming assignments. We can research our collection and, if needed, designate materials as "Library Use Only."

  • Give written instructions on assignments so we can best help students understand the parameters.

  • Allow us to pre-check any bibliographies to see if we own those titles or can suggest similar titles.

  • Consider alternate related topics, as we may not have enough materials for all students assigned the same topic.

  • Accept a variety of sources, as entire books on a limited subject often do not exist.

  • For more extensive requests (e.g., Teacher Packs), please give us 3-5 working days to gather the best materials for you.

CLASS VISITS

A class visit is a wonderful way to introduce your students to the many services provided by the Alhambra Civic Center Library.

Please contact the Children's Room at (626) 570-3215, to arrange a visit with your class.  Please schedule at least two weeks in advance.

During the class visit our professional staff can:

  • Provide a tour of the Library.

  • Tell students how to get their own Library cards.

  • Introduce Library resources available for class assignments, homework, after school, and recreational use and teach students how to use them.

  • Introduce the class to books on topics of your choice and discuss the value of the Library and encourage reading.

  • Present story and/or film programs.

Please remember:

  • If you would like students to receive Library cards on the day of the visit, arrangements must be made in advance with Library staff.

  • Teachers, aides, and accompanying parents must remain with the class during the visit.
