What is Library to Your Door? 

It is a book delivery program for books that the Alhambra Library does not own. A title is delivered to you free and directly from Amazon, which you return to the Library when you are done.

 

Is there a catch?

No, there is no catch! However, this service is for books the library does not own that have been published at least one year ago. Full program terms can be found at the bottom of this page. In summary:

  • You must have a valid Alhambra Library card in good standing.
  • You are limited to ordering 1 book once a month and you must return a previously requested Library to Your Door book before you can submit another request.
  • Titles must be available from Amazon as new items.
  • Books must be valued under $50 (pre-tax). World Language books can be valued up to $75 (pre-tax).
  • Books should not be available at our Library (no prepublication orders or anything published within the last 12 months). Alternate formats (such as Large Print or in another language) are okay to order.
  • Please do not order:
    • Textbooks
    • Workbooks meant to be written in
    • Audiobooks on CD
    • Items only available from non-US vendors
    • Items published less than 365 days ago
    • Digital items

How do I order a Library to Your Door book?

First check our catalog and Amazon to see if a book is currently not available in the Library's Catalog and available from Amazon. Also, check to make sure it meets the criteria above. Next, fill out this request form online. Paper request forms can also be obtained in person at the Help Desks.

 

What do I do after my Library to Your Door book is delivered?

  • Please keep all packing materials - including the packaging the item comes in, gift receipt and/or packing slip.
  • Please note that your book is checked out to you for six weeks after the request date with no renewal (see packing slip for the date).
  • Enjoy your book.
  • After enjoying your book, please return it by the due date by placing the item in the original packaging or a plastic bag and insert any gift receipt or packing slip in the item before you drop it off at the Check Out Desk. This is very important so that we may identify the item as part of the Library to Your Door program.

 

What happens to the book after I return it?

If the book meets our Collection Development Criteria, we will add it to our collection.

  • Library to Your Door is available for books in print only.
  • Print books must be valued under $50 (pre-tax). World Language books can be valued up to $75 (pre-tax).
  • Books should not be available at our library (no prepublication orders or anything published within the last 365 days). Alternate formats (such as Large Print or in another language) are okay to order.
  • Please do not request textbooks, workbooks meant to be written in, audiobooks on CD, items only available from non-US vendors, or items published less than 365 days ago.
  • Library to Your Door books check out for a period of 6 weeks from the request date with no renewal.
  • When you receive your item, please keep all packing materials – including the packaging the item comes in, gift receipt and/or packing slip. Place the item in the original packaging or a plastic bag and insert any gift receipt or packing slip in the item before you drop it off at the Check Out Desk. This is very important so that we may identify the item as part of the Library to Your Door program.
  • You must return a previously requested Library to Your Door book before you can submit another request.
  • Please note that orders are placed approximately every 1 to 2 weeks; while our goal is to get requested materials shipped as quickly as possible, we cannot guarantee delivery dates.
  • Library to Your Door items are added to the collection if they fall under our collection development guidelines.
  • We will make every effort to fulfill your Library to Your Door request, but if the request does not meet the criteria, we will notify you via email of our decision.
