DONATIONS OF BOOKS AND OTHER MATERIALS:
We appreciate your interest in supporting the Alhambra Library through material donations. To help us manage these donations effectively and ensure they benefit our community, please review the following guidelines.
Donations will be accepted by the Library under the following guidelines:
- Library staff will evaluate donations for inclusion based on the Library Collection Development policy.
- Because the Library's collection is actively managed and updated, donations are not guaranteed to become permanent additions.
- All donated materials become the property of the Alhambra Library and may be added to the collection, sold, or recycled without consulation with the donor.
- Items not added to the collection may be transferred to the Friends of the Alhambra Library to support Library services.
DONATION GUIDELINES
We Accept:
- Fiction and nonfiction books (hardcover and paperback)
- Recent bestsellers
- DVDs, Blu-Ray discs, and audiobooks
- Clean copies of “classic” titles
We Cannot Accept:
- Books in poor condition (e.g., yellowing pages, broken bindings, stains, or musty smell, etc.)
- Textbooks or reference materials older than 5 years (e.g., dictionaries, atlases, etc.)
- Reader’s Digest condensed books
- Outdated informational materials (e.g., old travel guides, nonfiction older than 5 years, etc.)
- Newspapers or magazines
- VHS tapes, cassette tapes, or CDs
- Encyclopedias
Dropping off Donations:
- Donations can be brought to the Library’s Check Out Desk during regular operating hours only.
- Please pack donations in sturdy, disposable boxes or containers that do not need to be returned.
- Do not place donations in book return slots or leave them outside the building.
Larger donations (up to 6 boxes):
- Donations requiring staff assistance must be scheduled in advance.
- Assistance is available:
- Monday - Saturday: 11am - 4pm
- Sunday: 2pm - 4pm
- To schedule, please call the Circulation Department at (626) 570-5008.
- On the day of your appointment, park on First Street, enter the Library, and check in at the Check Out Desk.
Appraisals & Tax Receipts:
- The Library does not provide appraisals or assign values to donated materials.
- Upon request, donors may receive a receipt letter acknowledging the donation.
- Donors are responsible for listing and estimating the value of donated items for tax purposes.
MONETARY DONATIONS
Support the Alhambra Library with a financial contribution through the Alhambra Public Library Foundation. Your gift helps fund:
- Library programs and events
- Summer reading and literacy initiatives
- Book and material purchases
All donations are tax-deductible.
