Volunteer at the Library

BECOME A VOLUNTEER!

  • All Library Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age.
  • All positions require a mimimum committement of two hours per week
  • All applicants must complete a volunteer application.  Please note that effective July 2015, all volunteers must be fingerprinted at the Alhambra Police Department, in accordance with city regulations.  

CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Homework Help Volunteer

Volunteers will help children from ages 5-12 with their homework assignments in the Children's Room. Homework assignments can include topics in math, science, language arts and reading. 

Time Commitment:  Homework Help occurs Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age is 14
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English
  • Bilingual desired, but not required
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good work habits (punctual, able to follow directions, dependable, etc.)

 

Tech Tutor Volunteer

Volunteers work with patrons one-on-one to answer questions about basic computing, using Library technology, setting up e-mail or social media accounts, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age is 16
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English
  • Bilingual desired, but not required
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good understanding of basic computer software including Microsoft Office suite, webmail, Facebook, etc. and hardware such as printers/copy machines, e-reader devices, tablets, etc.
  • Ability to instruct and demonstrate use of technology
  • Good work habits (punctual, able to follow directions, dependable, etc.)

 

Friends Foundation Bookstore Volunteer

Volunteers price books, stock bookstore shelves, staff the bookstore cashier’s desk, assist customers with sales, and staff special bookstore events/sales.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age is 18
  • Basic math & computer skills
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English
  • Bilingual desired but not required
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good work habits (punctual, able to follow directions, dependable, etc.)
